Maia Vota is an 18 year old filmmaker who lives in Burlington, Vermont. She is currently finishing high school and hopes to study film production in college. Maia started making films at 13 and has created numerous documentary and narrative shorts. In 2016, she worked on a documentary spotlighting female directors. In high school, Maia began creating documentary profiles for her high school newspaper. With them she won awards from the New England Scholastic Press Association and the Freedom and Unity Contest for films about the Women’s March and a Black Lives Matter flag raising at her school. Most recently, Maia was a finalist in the student category of the AT&T Film Awards. Her goal for 2019 is to direct a narrative film.
